Method To The Madness
Well, I joined my first NFL Fantasy League with some of the coolest chicks I know. Draft night consisted of a lot of MacBooks, wine, cheese, candy, and looking at headshots just as much as the stats.
In marketing, there isn’t always a right or wrong, but there should always be a method. Draft night reminds me of how there are various strategies to choose from and that you don’t always know which one will lead to the greatest success. Once you make your decision though, it’s done and you stick to it and adapt as you go. Projections aren’t always right. Either are gut feelings. There are plenty of unforeseen circumstances that can arise, just like injuries so many of my players fell victim to.
My strategy was based on a combination of statistics, players looks, players names, and player numbers, factoring in colours of jerseys, team names and logos based on my personal preferences and superstitions – I’d say our draft was a lot different than from the guys I know who play…
*Update*
As the season progressed and my best players dropped liked flies, I spent a decent amount of time reading the waiver wire, adding, dropping, benching, and trading. My qualitative strategy eventually led me to a quantitative 2nd place finish. Wahoo! I learned a lot from my first season and will use my findings to tweak my strategy for next year, just as you should use analytics to adjust your marketing strategies as you go- especially with paid ad sets!
